The potential benefits of divorce mediation

No divorce is the same. While all divorces are initiated because at least one spouse is dissatisfied with their marriage, the process of divorce and the emotions involved can vary greatly. While it is possible to go through an amicable divorce that brings about healing and positive fresh starts, many people, unfortunately, have very negative experiences and go through times of stress, anger and resentment.

If you are determined to reduce stress in the divorce process as much as possible and remain on good terms with your ex for the sake of the children you share, you may want to consider divorce mediation. Divorce mediation is a process where a third-party mediator facilitates the resolution of issues surrounding divorces such as child custody arrangements and the division of assets. The following is an overview of the benefits of divorce mediation.

It reduces stress and toxicity

Going through litigation can put an extreme amount of stress on both you and your divorcing spouse. It's likely to increase conflict between the two of you because you will be essentially battling against each other. Mediation seeks to reduce the feeling of conflict and focuses on resolutions and compromises.

It's usually less costly and time-consuming

When compared with litigation, mediation is almost always less costly, because it does not involve as many legal costs and court appearances. It's also usually much faster when divorcing spouses are able to efficiently resolve their issues using this method.

It protects confidentiality

Going to court to litigate divorce matters means that the result will become public information. If you are a public figure or you value your privacy, you may want to opt for mediation over litigation to ensure that the details of your divorce are kept from public view.

If you are unhappy in your marriage and considering filing for divorce, consider all of the options available to you and take swift action to create a strategic plan.
